Representing Coventry University
This opportunity allowed me to develop my networking skills. I was approached by people who were interesting in offering opportunities in order to develop my future career. For example, workshops in a variety of dance genres and teaching opportunities. It also gave me a chance to ask others about their experiences and advice they would give me to kick start my career as a dance artist/ teacher.

Dance and Disability Discussion
Wednesday 29th February
I enjoyed hearing Fiona perspective of dealing with Aspergers because I know she can find it difficult to communicate with people at times. Its nice to know more in order to be able to help her if she needs it.
We spent time during our Improvisation lesson to discuss dance and disability. It is something that I haven't worked with before coming to University and therefore, I am interested to learn more about it.
We spoke about the difference between the disabilities you can see and those that you can't. As a member of Perspective Dance Company, I work with both Karen and Fiona very closely who both have disabilities, so I have began to experience first what it is like. I find it the same as any other class I would take normally. You have to work with things and around things but in the end it is still the same.
"Different, not necessarily bad." Fiona Butler
Karen lead a workshop with Hayley on how she has to adapt the practical work in order to accommodate the movement she has in her body. The movements have the same principle but just done in a slightly different way.
Overall, I'm glad I know more about it because it is something I could consider for the future but also helping the people around me now.

Replay
I recently revisited the Siobhan Davies Replay site to look for dances that I could take inspiration from for mine and Emma's duet. I looked in the Scrapbook at all the things I had previously saved in there. The one thing that stood out for me was To Hand.
To Hand
Date: 2011
Venue: Whitechapel Gallery, London
Choreographer: Siobhan Davies
Film Director: Neil Wissink
Dance Artists: Matthias Sperling
I have a lot of questions to ask about this piece because it interests and intrigues me. For example, can it be classed as dance? Where did this ideas and inspiration come from? Was it specifically made for Matthias Sperling? How long did it take to create?
I think I have an interest in this piece because I have seen the work he create for the Yr 2 dancers and their performance projects. To date, I don't know much about his background and other work he has done but I would like to look into this further.

Blogging...
What is useful about blogging?
What is challenging about blogging?
- You can record something and then look back at it in the future with a different perspective to the time you wrote it.
- Record your own development over a period of time.
- Add pictures, videos and links.
- Other people can look at your development.
- Other people can leave comments on your posts.
What is challenging about blogging?
- It is a time consuming process and therefore it is difficult to find time to keep up to date with.

Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker!!

I am going to see Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker next week at the Birmingham Hippodrome and I cannot wait! I really enjoy watching his work because he takes traditional stories out of their original context and makes something completely unique.
Review to follow :D

How can blogging assist and support you as a dance student and dance artist?
Having a blog to write on is like having a personal diary. All your important information can be kept safely and you can return to it to look back on what you've written. It is also possible to add videos and pictures to your blog, this can help you to document your progess in media forms rather than just writting.
This is a very helpful thing being a dance student and dance artist. I can write about reflections from lessons to look back on in the future. I can talk about work I have seen and how it was inspiring, I can even talk about how it inspires me to dance. Videos and pictures can be taken in lessons and rehearsal to help see the progress being made over a period of time. Other dancers can also look at my blog and the work I have posted on it. Likewise, I can look at others blogs for inspiration and to gain understanding of new ideas.

What inspires me about dance?
Dance means something different to each individual, we all have our own opinion and perception of what dance is. This is what inspires me about dance. It isn't something that is the same for everyone we can all make it our own and interpret it in different ways.
